Legend of the Condor Heroes (LOCH) 2003
This is another Jin Yong novel adapted by China’s Zhang Ji Zhong in a follow up of his earlier work on Xiao Ao Jiang Hu.
The title of this series is ????? (She Diao Ying Xiong Zhuan ), aka Brave Archer, Legend of the Condor Heroes.
As with all his much loved novels, various tv adaptations were done on this novel; with Hongkong’s TVB station having produced it twice.
The story’s centered around the 2 sons of 2 sworn brothers residing in the Cow Herders Village late Song period when the kingdom was weakened by corrupt officials who were bribed or intimidated by the surrounding hostile states, namely the Jin Empire. The young boys were separated when young and one (Guo Jing) was accepted into Genghis Khan’s clan, the other (Yang Kang) was adopted by a prince of the Jin Empire.
The young Guo Jing was slow as well as naive but received martial arts training by some Chinese heroes who were looking for him and his mother. He also received internal energy training by a passing Taoist priest.
The young Yang Kang grew up into an arrogant princeling and when he was told who his natural father was he refused to accept it as that would mean he is not the Jin prince he thought he was but just a Han descendant.
The story takes off when Guo Jing makes his way into China and met Huang Rong who was intelligent and resourceful. They became inseparable although he was already betrothed to Genghis Khan’s daughter before he left Mongol territory.
Together they met with many heroic as well as evil characters in their adventures and Huang Rong even became the leader of the Beggars Sect.
Guo Jing was able to take revenge on the murderers of his father by aligning with Genghis Khan and leading his army to destroy the Jin Empire which was trying to subdue the Mongols.
While Guo Jing was kind and forgiving, his friend Yang Kang was scheming and revengeful and met with his just dessert.
This particular version starred a very well known Chinese ethnic dancer Yang Li Ping who acted as Mei Chao Feng, a sect sister of Huang Rong, and who was on the wrong side of the fence.

Rating: 3.5/5
When I first watched it I gave it 3/5 because of the over-retarding of Guo Jing’s character. He was suppose to be simple and naive, not a congenital retard that the producer made the character into.
Later I revised my opinion of this series and re-rated it to 3.5/5.
The reason is I had then watch a newer Jin Yong adaptation by the same producer and he made the male lead character into such a screaming monkey that this Guo Jing looked positively normal next to this screaming monkey.
